The Limitations of Biomarker-Driven Therapies
Every patient's cancer is biologically unique, and tumors continue to evolve throughout disease progression and treatment. As a result, the molecular targets used to guide precision oncology are often heterogeneous, dynamic, and subject to change over time. For patients whose tumors express a validated molecular target, biomarker-driven therapies have transformed cancer care and frequently offer improved efficacy and tolerability compared with conventional chemotherapy. However, these therapies are only effective when the required biomarker is present at sufficient levels - a criterion that many patients do not meet. Moreover, biomarker expression is inherently unstable. It can vary substantially between patients with the same cancer type and may change during tumor evolution, treatment, and relapse, limiting the long-term effectiveness of conventional targeted therapies. Bioptamers is developing a target-agnostic platform designed to overcome these limitations by recognizing the unique molecular signatures of each patient's cancer rather than relying on predefined biomarkers.
